Mouth-watering flavors that are unlike any you've ever had.
A refreshing New Orleans feel!
Bring everyone! The dining experience at Mouth of The South should be felt by all.
The Voodoo Shrimp and Grits was awesome! I didn't really know what to expect, but it was better than I anticipated. I can't wait to go back for more!
Best food I've had since moving to Omaha, the gizzards are absolutely slap yo mama good. Service was amazing from start to finish. If you order the catfish it is a wait, but you won't be in a hurry here. The atmosphere reminds me of home. Thank you Mouth of the South for having a peice of the south in the Midwest.
The food is amazing!!! We went here for the first time tonight and both my boyfriend and I can't wait to go back! We got the pork tenderloin sandwiches and the coleslaw - this food was hands down some of the best of we have ever eaten!
Its friendly atmosphere. The staff is friendly . They where on top of making sure our drinks where full. The Food was great. There is really no food like it. It's a must eat in Omaha I believe
The BEST cornbread I have ever had. Also ordered the crab dip and that was delicious. I think it would have been better if they were served with bread as opposed to tortilla chips. But I would recommend them nonetheless. They were shorthanded when we went but still managed to provide good service. I will be back.
Wasn't sure what I was in for, had been to this location through various management. I was actually very pleasantly surprised! The food and staff were both very good. I had the pulled pork sandwich, red beans and rice and sampled some green beans. All were very flavorful! The red beans and rice had a bit of a kick (I'll be back for more) the green beans were fresh, not processed, appeared to be from the garden and the pork was tender and juicy with a very nice sauce. I recommend highly!
Well I'm in love with this place. We had the jambalaya and voodoo shrimp and grits. With some rum runners. Everything was delicious. Our server was awesome. Not annoying. Worst part was he asked if we wanted a baggy was a little sad when it was just a plastic bag and not pot.
A must eat restaurant. Most amazing meal I've had in a very long time. Had the shrimp and grits. And they didn't skimp on the shrimp. They had different takes on mixed drinks. I enjoyed that as well. Atmosphere is super comfy and I absolutely loved the artwork. Would eat here 3-4 times a week if I lived in Omaha.
Fire!! Amazing! I had the catfish Po Boy/ rings & buffalo wings. Great service and very flavorful food. Highly recommend.
Man I love this place. Been twice for lunch during the week. Service has been great both times.
Atmosphere is cool. Inside is a little dark, but cool decor and plenty of TVs. Patio is super cool. Screened in patio is money.
Food has great both times. Pictured is the Kickin' Chicken Pasta. Hoping to make this a regular spot.
Good was good. Had the pulled pork and brisket sandwich which comes on toasted Texas toast. My wife had the coleslaw on the side instead of on the sandwich. The coleslaw has a nice kick to eat. The BBQ sauce was very good. We had their fresh cut fries and onion rings and they were good. Will definitely go back.
The crab dip was very good, the jambalaya was excellent but a little dry. People were excellent. A little pricey at $60 for two guests including sodas not alcohol.
Great cajun atmosphere. Big, flavorful portions! Will definitely come back for some more taste of the south!
Mouth of the South is back! Rising from the ashes of the fire of their Florence location like a phoenix to bring us the best Southern grub in Omaha! This was one of their first nights open at their new location, so they were still working out some kinks, but what we got was fantastic. My wife ordered the pork tenderloin and I got the kickin' chicken pasta and some wings. See the pictures below and eat your heart out. Can't wait to come back when they have the full menu!
We had such a good time there today, our food was kick ass. We had the wings, gumbo, sweet potato fries, and crab cakes.... it was spectacular:)
Listen up all. This food is hands down, the absolute best in Omaha. I would literally wait all day for it- so, to any haters complaining about the wait (on their first week of opening- mind you) then go find some mediocre restaurant that can meet your impatient needs. This is made to order, authentic southern food and that takes time and love. If you can't appreciate that, you should probably head on over to Applebee's.
Finally, the staff is incredible. I saw a few of them get chewed out tonight by angry customers and they handled it with such grace. Our waitress, Shar, was attentive and kind; despite a lot of flack from others.
I'm a loyal Mouth of the South fan and I will always sing their praises. KEEP DOIN YOUR THING!
So Happy Mouth of the South is OPEN again! Had another great Lunch there this week! Kicking Chicken Pasta NEVER disappoints! Great Sweet Tea and Service all around. Place was busy, yet no delays! (Unfortunate a couple of 'sour pusses' have spoiled the overall ratings with their whining & ridiculous 1 Star ratings that help no one else in any way)
Best onion rings and fries, fresh cut best in the city. You get a very large amount for less. True southern sweet tea with a hint of lemon. Po Boys best ever, thin toasted bun.
We were sat immediately, and our waitress quickly took our drink orders. We ordered the shrimp dip and gizzards for appetizers. The shrimp dip was a little greasy but good. Some of the chips that came with it weren't cooked all the way though. The sauce on the gizzards was really good, but the gizzards themselves were pretty bland. The entrees more than made up for them though. Etouffee, smokestack burger, catfish po boy, and gumbo were all delicious. We will be back to try more of the menu.
You will wait. If you are expecting to get seated somewhere right away and don't have patience, do NOT come to this place. HOWEVER, it is worth the wait. Portion sizes are generous and reasonably priced, variety is very good; appetizers, salads, pasta, seafood, burgers, sandwiches and meal options. We ordered the crab dip, wings, sweet potato fries, mushroom/swiss burger, smoke pit sandwich, all was delicious!
I went for the first time ever since they opened up on Ames. I have heard great things when they were in the Florence area, so I decided to try it for myself. All in all it was pretty tasty.
I'm from SW LA and their boudin balls were very impressive (here visiting my in-laws). They were different in that the pork inside was shredded rather than a ground meat & they have a thicker crunchy batter on the outside (almost hushpuppy style), but they were amazing! Good remoulade sauce on top too. I also loved my beautiful house salad with Gorgonzola & pecans atop (my fav cheese & nuts, eek!) & I of course got bleu cheese dressing too.
For my main dish, I wish it was spicier: jerk mahi fish tacos. Based on the taste, I'm wondering if they accidentally gave me the blackened style instead of jerk since they were totally BLAND. Overall my family loved it, entree' highlights were the pulled pork & smokepit sandwiches. Sweet potato fries were average. Sadly they were out of their fancy mac & cheese we so wanted to try. We were NOT fans of the beer battered onion rings bc you could taste the beer way too much.
Two things.
1. I've probably eaten over 5000 wings in my life. These are the best wings I've ever had. Hands down.
2. My fianc is from NOLA. I took her there and she said it's as authentic as you can get.
Wings appetizer, red fish and shrimp/grits entrees and some bourbon. You won't be upset.
I'm excited that Mouth of the South is back and in a larger space. Normally I order the smoke pit, because I want barbecue. It's a good sandwich. This time I wasn't too hungry and wanted to try something different. I ordered the gumbo for myself and sweet potato fries for my son (he's 11 months old). It was just what I needed on a cold evening. The gumbo was full of flavor and heat. The sweet potatoes were crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside. The dusting of powdered sugar added nice touch of sweetness.
I love this place and the food is great too. Abita is their beer line and I love their IPA. They have a full bar so I know you can find something to make you feel happy. They promote Southern cooking, but they accommodate other dishes too. Yes that includes kiddos.
This place lives up to it's former location in Florence like nobody's business! If you were fortunate enough to of gone to the original location, you will not be disappointed with their new Benson location in the old Lolo's Chicken n Waffles. I've gotten something different each time I have had dinner and all of them were so good! It's a perfect location for them to move into after the fire at the original location. The prices are really reasonable and the mix drinks are very good. If your looking for amazing southern/comfort food you have got to try Mouth of the South!
Always great food. I frequent this place mainly at lunch time and get an order to go!! Just solid comfort food to me. Never disappointed
Went there this evening and the food was fantastic. Hadn't been to this new location yet and it was fantastic. Service A+. Food A+. Atmosphere A+. Better than the old place!!! Can't wait to go back. Kickin chicken was awesome! My dining partners had the shrimp po boy and the smokestack. Everyone loved their meals. Go go go! You won't be disappointed.
Great food. Family had pulled pork, catfish and chicken tortilla soup. All easily beat expectations. Atmosphere was pretty authentic (I was born and raised in the south). My only issue was that service was slow on all levels. Soup came at same time as meal.
Will definitely try again.
Happy to have this restaurant open again and the new expanded space is very awesome. Food lives up to former reputation. We'll be back!
I have to upgrade my last review, as I went back, and the food was great ! Gumbo...Amazing, and the shrimp and grits was great! It's back to the old Florence quality! (...it wasn't busy that nite either )
First time in the new location...

We were greeted right away. Our server was VERY nice. Just absent minded about refills and tending to us. The wings are SO incredible! One of us had soup, and the other a cheeseburger. Good food! You will not be disappointed. Did I mention the wings are awesome? LOL
So glad this place is back. Took me a while to try it again since it's further away now but it was worth it. I love the house salad. With chicken it's a meal. So good with the blue cheese and walnuts. All the dressings taste homemade and fresh. I love the citrus vinaigrette. The soups are good. The shroom burger is excellent and it feels like its run by a real chef and not a cookie cutter corporation. If you like spice you will get it here. I wil he back soon!
I'll start by saying this - I'm from MS and have spent a lot of time in NO and have family there. I'm also a huge seafood buff. After seeing great Facebook reviews, my husband and I stopped by after church for dinner. Place wasn't super crowded. Very easy to find. Both the exterior and interior are unassuming. We were immediately greeted and seated upon walking in and attended to by a waitress not long afterwards. She wasn't able to provide recommendations but did answer basic questions about the menu and ability to customize. I ordered the catfish and red beans and rice. He ordered onion rings and a brisket/bbq sandwich (basically deconstructed because he's super picky). Portions for everything were huge. His Sandwich came with slaw, sauce and a mixture of brisket and pork. When I asked how it was - he said "not bad", which can be a compliment coming from him. I tasted his onion rings, they were crispy, but lacked seasoning in the batter. I loved the red beans and rice. The catfish fillet was whole (so with bones) which would be good to know up front. I wasn't impressed with the taste, although it was nice and crispy.
Service and food were amazing!!!! If you like cajun food you will love this place. We live easy out west and it's well worth the trip!
Went during lunch time, on a Tuesday. We were greeted by the hostess/waitress. She was very informative. As it was our first time visiting, we went with her suggestions. We loved our meal here, and will definitely eat here again.
If you are looking for top of the line southern Cajun food, this is your place! The ambience gives it the southern charm, the service is friendly and quick, and the food will far exceed your expectation! It has a great menu selection with generous servings, so be prepared to take half of it home. I loved the crab dip appetizer, and the Red Snapper plate was the best I have ever had! You will definitely get your money's worth with all this delicious Cajun food!
First time here and it was absolutely delicious! Our group ordered 3 entree and shared so we could taste multiple things. My favorite was the shrimp and grits. Huge shrimp and for once the grits had real flavor instead of just being piled on with cheese like other restaurants. My favorite was the fish with crawfish cream sauce. Served with vegetables and mashed potatoes. The fish was crispy the cream sauce had just the right Cajun kick. I'm really looking forward to coming again to try some of the New Orleans beers and drink specials and appetizers. Atmosphere is cozy and laid back with mason jars as lighting decor and to serve drinks. The wait time for food is a little longer than some other places but well worth the wait in my opinion.
I was a little skeptical to try this place out, however I was highly impressed with the outcome. Such great service and the atmosphere is so warm and inviting! I have had a lot of Cajun food before but this was some of the best that I have had. We started off with wings which were marinated for 2 days and charred to perfection! Followed with an entree of both Shrimp and Grits and jambalaya. Which blew me alway with the quality of flavor and spices. I really hope this place takes of and gets recognized. Definitely the new spot for Cajun in Omaha! I'll be back for sure!
The food was exceptional. It is true, Louisiana Cajun. If you want real-deal Cajun food, this is the place!!! The Gumbo is as traditional and delicious as any I have ever had. It is real chicken and sausage gumbo - consisting of a traditional dark roux, the right amount of spice and just enough rice to thicken it slightly beyond a soup. *There is no seafood, tomato, or other non-traditional items in this gumbo - SO if you think that is "gumbo" and are looking for that, this is not it. ***It is the delicious classic Louisiana gumbo recipe, exactly like what you will get in Lafayette or Lake Charles, LA. The Catfish Po Boy was also done perfectly in the traditional Louisiana manner. The French bread was tender inside with a perfectly crispy crust. The catfish was lightly breaded and cooked to perfection. Simple, classic dressing on the Po Boy - shredded lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion (I always go no onions), and a spicy remoulade sauce. The remoulade sauce was exactly as it should be - light, creamy, and just the right amount of spice to accompany the other ingredients on the sandwich and not overpower them.
I truly hope the move by Mouth of the South from Florence to this new location will allow the restaurant to flourish for many years to come. It is without a doubt the best traditional Cajun food in the state of Nebraska and would challenge any Louisiana-based restaurant with its signature items.
Service, food and atmosphere were the best. Since it was our first visit, we had a lot of questions. Our server was patient and gave extra attention to us.
Love love love this place!! We were out trying something new and Mouth of The South hit the spot! Our delicious dishes were the Voodoo Shrimp and Grits, and the Fried Chicken Etouffee (Daily special). Both were very tasty! The Voodoo Shrimp even had a kick to it! The bartender was our server and was very pleasant. Service was timely and enjoyable. Atmosphere is wonderful, check out the patio! We will absolutely be back and will bring friends!
This place is amazing!!!!!! You will not be disappointed! The Kickin Chicken add crawfish will blow your mind! It's worth the drive!
The food served here is better than meals I've eaten in New Orleans famous restaurants. Unbelievable shrimp n grits, gumbo, smoked meats, creamy Gouda Mac n cheese, tasty fries n corn muffins. Even though we were stuffed we enjoyed dessert too! Yummy. Dan was a great waiter and the patio was very enjoyable. My only disappointment was the hurricane cocktail was much too sweet for my liking. I can't wait to go back and try more menu items!
I truly enjoyed the food! I ordered the jambalaya and cornbread on the side..it was packed full of flavor. The server was pleasant and made our dining experience fast and easy. I would definitely recommend!!
For a taste of authentic Southern foods... "Mouth of the South" is appropriately named.
I stepped out and ordered the whole Fried Catfish Dinner from their amazing Southern Menu. The dinner sides included Red Beans (lightly spiced) , Rice and Fresh Corn Bread (with honey butter). The Fish was breaded and fried to mouthwatering golden brown.
The deserts, well to tell you the truth I didn't have room... maybe next time. I have a feeling I will be returning .
This northern boy, has developed a taste for this "Tasty Southern Grub".
They have the best atmosphere in an unexpected location. I loved the food every time and I really hope they stay open. We had trouble when we went with little kids because their tables are all tall (all but 2) and can't bring up a high chair. We couldn't wait for a low table to open up and had to leave. But we definitely go here for date night on our own!
I've been eating semi-regularly at mouth of the south since I moved back to Omaha and have yet to be disappointed. My personal choice the majority of the time I order is the gumbo, it's easily the best gumbo I've had outside of family cookouts. Service is always good and staff are always friendly.
Mouth of the south is on my shortlist of places to take visitors in omaha.
Lisa was our server for a group of 14. she was fantastic! she was knowledgeable and so helpful and accommodating our group with selection of the various meal selection. we had a variety of different dishes and for the most part everyone enjoyed their meals.
Throw some beads and lift your tops, and you couldn't convince me we are in Nebraska. I love Nola and this place will put your state of mind somewhere right between The French Quarter & The Garden District. You will never be disappointed . The best place north of the Mason Dixie Line to get your Cajun on.
We were so sad to see them close due to the fire. Thrilled they have reopened but I wish they had been able to stay in Florence. The new location has had a lot of turn over so I hope they can be the ones that last there. Food is fantastic! Service was great, too. So glad they're back!
Amazing food! Great service! Very friendly. Good beer choices. Ordered the Cajun chicken pasta. AMAZING!!
Lora waited on my wife and I tonight. It was our first time visiting so she made recommendations on several items as my wife is not a fan of spicy. Thank you Lora! Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious and mouth watering. We will definitely be returning for another meal.
